ACCIDENTS CAN BE AVOIDED.(Sports)

The tragic accidental shooting death this week of an 18-year-old Oneida County man, followed by the suicide of his grieving father, might have been avoided if New York was among 43 other states requiring hunters to wear a certain percentage of fluorescent orange clothing.

Some states require two articles of the highly visible garment.

For years, hunter safety instructors have been advising hunters to wear something visible in the woods. Most hunters heed that advice, but you'd be surprised how many refuse to wear the slightest amount of fluorescent orange. I guess they figure it will spook a deer as fast as it will alert another …
