QLD: Gvt to consult the public in the regions

BRISBANE, Feb 20 AAP - The Queensland government will hold regional forums in eight
centres around the state tomorrow to discuss pressing issues with local representatives.

Information Minister Terry Mackenroth said two cabinet ministers would be at each meeting
and would also respond to suggestions and issues put forward at previous regional community
forums.

Mr Mackenroth said 2,776 ideas and issues had been raised at the initial forums last
year with more than 4,500 people attending the eight meetings.

The Regional Community program is part of the government's commitment to give people
more say in local issues.

The forums would also consider major regional infrastructure projects which may qualify
under the government's new $50 million Regional Centres program.

Tomorrow's meetings will be at Kuranda, Ingham, Proserpine, Yeppoon, Childers, Caloundra,
Esk and Beaudesert.
