Qld; Protesters burn effigy of Pauline Hanson outside poll booth

BRISBANE, Feb 17 AAP - A group of protesters today burned an effigy of One Nation leader
Pauline Hanson in King George Square, outside Brisbane's largest polling booth in Town
Hall.

The rag-stuffed dummy, clad in a fuschia-coloured dress and with red paper hair and
a cut-out face of Ms Hanson, was doused with kerosene and set alight.

Protest organiser and a spokesman for the group Action Against Racism, David Charlton,
said the effigy of Ms Hanson was burnt as a warning to voters tempted to vote for One
Nation or to preference its candidates in today's state election.

"The West Australian election shocked thousands when One Nation won three upper houses
seats," Mr Charlton told AAP.

"Pauline Hanson is igniting racism in Australia, so we are going to ignite racism,"

he said of the burning effigy.

About 50 people watched the protest.
